Memories at Old Ford Factory
The National Archives of Singapore restored the old Ford Motor Factory in 2006.
It features the permanent exhibition on Singapore under Japanese rule from 1942 - 1945

Taking History As A Lesson

by Emperor Tang Taizhong on learning through reflections from the past

The end of Singapore
A painting by Saburo Miyamoto featuring the meeting between
Lt.-Gen. Arthur Ernest Percival and Lt.-Gen. Yamashita Tomoyuki at
Board Room, Ford Motor Factory, 15th February 1942.
The British surrendered unconditional at the end of the meeting.

Ford Motor Factory
The British Surrender Delegation entering Ford Motor Factory on 15th February 1942. The British had to walk the last part of their two-hour journey to Ford Motor Factory as the roads leading to Bukit Timah were badly damaged by heavy bombing.

Rain!
POWs taking the opportunity of rain to wash up. Water was scarce during
the Japanese Occupation and very often the supply was rationed.
With keen artistic observation and sense of humour, Mr William Haxworth, a POW,
captured many simple yet poignant moments of POW's lives.

Lady Figurine
Figurine of a lady by Singapore artist Chua Boon Kee.
She carries tapioca in her hands, representing numerous Singapore residents
who overcame the scarcity of food by turning to tapioca
as staple diet. Many people grew tapioca for food during
the hard times of Japanese Occupation.
